How we work?
Budlegal is a mid-sized, agile and internationally minded law firm based in Budapest. Our team works in three languages – English, German and Hungarian – and combines local legal expertise with international experience and business awareness.
Many of our attorneys have lived, studied or worked abroad for several years. This background shapes the way we think, communicate, and solve legal challenges – with a strategic and client-focused mindset. It’s an added value our international clients feel right from the first consultation.
We don’t believe in one-size-fits-all solutions. Instead, we offer legal advice that is tailored, pragmatic and aligned with the specific business needs of our clients – whether they operate locally or across borders.
Our work is driven by consistency, reliability, responsiveness and flexibility. We aim to deliver not just legally correct answers, but real solutions that help our clients move forward confidently.
Key Practice Areas
Commercial law
We make comprehensive examination of the issues arising in the course of enterprises’ operations and we develop the optimum legal solutions while taking business and commercial aspects into consideration.
This includes in particular the legal services concerning general terms and conditions, service and sales contracts, complex sales systems, corporate governance issues and the legal questions arising in the course of corporate transformations, M&A company acquisitions, and the issues of joint venture and corporate finance, as well as legal consultancy concerning start-ups.
Labour law
Our labour law service covers the entire spectrum of matters related to the employment of staff.
We provide consultancy to our medium and large enterprise clients on matters ranging from labour law issues occurring daily to the assessment of labour law compliance. Our prominent service to enterprises is a legal evaluation of the labour area and, within that, an evaluation of their labour law documents and practices related to wage structure and working time scheduling in terms of legal compliance, as well as continuous monitoring of legislative changes.
In addition, our activity expands to the development and assessment of corporate internal/employment policies, as well as drafting general and executive employment contracts and study agreements.
Real estate law
Our real estate law activity covers drafting sales and lease agreements, legal consultancy regarding real estate development and construction and drafting and assessing works contracts related to building and construction, as well as arranging of plot formations.
We help our clients in the legal enforcement of debts, which are unfortunately common in the building industry. We have several years of experience in the enforcement of claims in the course of bankruptcy, compulsory liquidation and enforcement procedures.
Data protection (GDPR)
The change in data protection law and in the e-privacy regulation posed a significant challenge to all enterprises.
In the framework of our consultancy, we provide help in becoming familiar with the most important rules, mapping the data management task occurring in course of the activity of the enterprise, and in preparing the necessary documentation, such as data processing records, data processing policies, cookie policy, management of employee data and drafting the documents necessary in the event of data protection complaints and breaches of personal data privacy.
M & A
The main goal of our services in the M & A field is to understand and support the business purposes of the contracting parties and to co-ordinate the activities of other professionals (e.g. financial, technical advisors) which support our client during the deal. We provide legal advisory services to our clients either in the position of a seller or in the position of a purchaser usually as from the very beginning of the M & A deal (due diligence) during the business negotiations until the closing of the deal – and even after the closing concerning additional legal issues arisen in connection with the realization of the deal. During our advisory services we do not focus on corporate law issues only but we take into consideration the provisions of other field of law concerned e.g. labour law, commercial law, competition law and data protection.
Company law
Our attorneys’ association provides complete legal consultancy in connection with the formation and modification of firms and companies and can also arrange all administration related thereto.
In course of this, we help our clients to choose the appropriate form of enterprise during the company formation, in the company modifications occurring during the business operation, in the transformation, merger and demerger of companies and in the termination of enterprises, as well as in the field of company law due diligence.
Law of online commerce
In the field of online commerce, many special rules need to be taken into consideration, in particular regarding the appearance on electronic surfaces, consumer contracts, advertising law and data protection. In this field, knowledge of the Hungarian rules is not enough; knowledge of the European Union regulations, directives and practice is required as well. Recently, we have proceeded often in the preparation of the commercial contracts, general terms and conditions and web use, cookie and data management notifications required for lawful operation, as well as in the preparation of the legal aspects to be taken into consideration in the course of creating websites.
Inheritance law
We provide comprehensive legal support in both domestic and international inheritance matters — from drafting wills to full representation during probate proceedings. We assist in preparing inheritance agreements, represent heirs or parties involved in inheritance disputes, and manage the entire probate process in Hungary, including proceedings before notaries, courts, and administrative authorities.
Whistleblowing
Establishing an internal whistleblowing system is now a legal obligation for many businesses. Our firm helps clients design and implement internal reporting channels and policies, prepares the necessary documentation, and ensures compliance with both EU directives and Hungarian legislation. We also consider data protection, employment law, and compliance-related aspects throughout the process.
ESG – Environmental, Social, Governance
ESG (Environmental, Social, and Governance) considerations are playing an increasingly important role in business operations. We support our clients in legally grounding their sustainability strategies, fulfilling reporting obligations, and ensuring compliance with EU regulations concerning supply chain due diligence and sustainability (e.g. CSRD, CSDDD, ESRS). We also assist in risk assessment and the development of internal ESG policies, where needed.
